Two really important things (for me) in Sasha Frere-Jones’s response to the Harlem Shake meme: (1) that if Billboard could include YouTube views in its charts, “the Hot 100 will now take the temperature of pop music in a way that may reflect how people are actually consuming pop music”; (2) “now is the perfect time for a “genuine” Harlem-shake song, and if A$AP Rocky or somebody else isn’t preparing a proper response, they are throwing away at least a No. 3 track.”
