Kim put me on to Next Big Sound, a website developed by some Northwestern graduates who are seeking to provide “popularity” information of musical artists to industry (and fans). Their method:
We’re tracking the number of plays, views, fans, comments, mentions, and other key metrics for 486,969 artists across major web properties like Facebook, MySpace, Last.fm, Twitter, and more. And we’re more accurate than your intern.
For now, you might be interested in tracking artists against one another–say, Miley Cyrus v.s. the Jonas Brothers v.s. the Rolling Stones v.s. Mozart, perhaps? Cool toy. Bound to improve with age. This seems especially like something Brayden or Gabriel will love.
