I heart the MacArthur Foundation, not because I know virtually anything about it, solely because they offer annual $500,000 “genius” grants to exceptional individuals in many fields.  This year’s Fellows have been announced, and among them you’ll find doctors, geologists, infectious disease specialists, a violinist and a sweetgrass basket maker.  My favorite, for obvious reasons, is music critic Alex Ross, of the New Yorker.

I also heart sarcastic, parodic art (as you know) and found a real gem today (thanks, Kottke) in Phillip Toledano’s series “America: The Gift Shop.” The orienting question is, “If American foreign policy had a gift shop, what would it sell?”  Not to be missed are the Dick Cheney Shredding Documents Snowglobe, and the Choc and Awe chocolate bar on which is printed, “Mission Accomplished.”
