i believe there is a TED talk that introduces this idea…We Feel Fine? It is an art installation on the Internet, about the Internet. The gizmo trolls around looking for feeling words, and records relevant information about the author (sex, location, weather in that location). Then the gizmo presents the results as a box of bouncing, reactive colored dots and boxes. You can customize your search for “women in Afghanistan who write they are anxious on a cloudy day” or just skim across the pool of emotion. For both specific and general, clicking on a dot or box will generate a text bubble that presents the text from which that emotion was extracted so you can get a qualitative sense of what it meant to that Afghany woman to be anxious.
My colleague Shaul tells me that faculty and students can both use this travel website to search for discounted flights (and other travel-related stuff). A quick search shows my ticket to Chicago would be $20 less on the same airline if I used this portal.
