Watching the amazing efforts that government, first responders, employers, neighbors etc. are making to keep New Yorkers safe, I am gobsmacked at how ineffectual other decision-making bodies can be. That’s not to say that Bloomberg, or the MTA, or NYU, or anyone else here is perfect (just listen to Bloomberg’s spanish, or his condescending statements about evacuating housing projects, or his dismissal of concern over prisoners in the east river). I’m just saying that what these folks are doing this week is amazing.
