like most other cultural sociologists, i have a mini-lecture about jeremy betham that i use in most courses. however, i did not know his “auto-icon” was rolled into the College Council meeting for the 100th and 150th anniversaries of University College London. Apparently, Dr. Bentham was listed as “present but not voting”. Also, College Council tradition holds that if the council reaches a tied vote on any motion, the auto-icon breaks the tie by voting in favour of the motion.
note that this is not Bentham’s “real” head, but a wax replica, since his real head was victim to too many student pranks.
